Spinal Decompression and the DRX9000

Goetz with CaptionThe last ten years has seen the arrival of spinal decompression systems like the DRX9000 from Axiom Worldwide. These devices were developed to provide an alternative to invasive treatments for back pain while avoiding some problems often associated with traction like fatigue, discomfort and the muscle spasms it sometimes triggers. Traction is an excellent therapy tool, but in some cases it might exacerbate the pain. The DRX9000 is particularly effective in providing relief from bulging vertebral discs, posterior facet syndrome, sciatica and degenerative disc disease. DRX stands for Decompression Reduction Extraction. The DRX9000 by Axiom Worldwide is the best system of its kind.

The split table of the DRX9000 reduces friction. With the patient laying on their back, the chest and shoulders are positioned into a support harness. The harness is attached to a system of air bladders, motors and pulleys that provide the motion of the machine. This motion produces a force that decompresses the space between the vertebrae. The onboard computer allows for precise adjustment of the decompression force and the angle of the pull. The DRX9000 is so precise, in fact, that it can target a specific spinal segment. Ultimately, what the DRX9000 does is provide more space to the discs between the vertebrae, which reduces pressure and herniation.

A Quick and Not Unpleasant Experience

A DRX9000 decompression session takes about 30-40 minutes, all told. The first several sessions start with a low to moderate decompression force which is increased over several sessions. Many patients report experiencing relief after just one session. Others will feel the benefits after a few. How quickly you begin to feel relief is dependent on the severity of your injury. Treatments are generally administered two to three times a week for six weeks, but some patients may require a longer or shorter regimen.

Before and after each decompression session you will be treated to physical therapy such as electrical muscle stimulation and hot and cold therapy. At Advance Health Services we have two DRX9000’s, each equipped with a DVD player and overhead monitor. You can choose from a collection of television shows to watch during your treatment. Some patients find the experience so comfortable that they take a short nap during their session.

DRX9000 decompression treatments are affordable, especially when compared to surgery. Many insurance companies do cover decompression treatment. Call Advance Health Services to set up a consultation and find out if you are eligible for this highly effective back pain treatment. Our staff will verify if your insurance covers the cost of the treatment.
