Spring is Here, Renew Your Look with Quick and Affordable Botox

Goetz with CaptionBotox has emerged as an easy and safe way to reduce the appearance of frown lines on the forehead and between the eyes as well as crow's feet appearing at the edges of the eyes. It works by blocking signals from the nervous system to the specific muscle that has been treated. The effect is a relaxed and softened muscle that cannot contract. This in turn softens and reduces the wrinkles.

In 1992 a Canadian husband and wife team of dermatologist, JD and JA Carruthers, published a study on the use of botulinum toxin type-A (Botox) for the treatment of frown lines. Doctors discovered decades earlier the effectiveness of the toxin as a powerful medication. Minute quantities of botulinum toxin type-A injected directly into muscle tissue will weaken that muscle for three or four months.

The Carruthers realized that the paralyzing effect of Botox could be applied to dermatology. In 2002, a decade after the Carruthers' discovery, the FDA approved the use of Botox for the temporary improvement of the appearance of frown lines on the forehead. Within five years Botox injections became the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the US with 4.6 million procedures according to the American society of Plastic Surgeons. Qualifications for dispensing Botox vary among counties and states. Providers include dermatologists and plastic surgeons and well as dentists, physicians assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners.

At Advance Health Services we are happy to now offer affordable cosmetic Botox injections. Your Botox treatment at Advance Health Services will take only a few minutes and does not require anesthesia. The Botox will be injected directly into the desired muscles with an ultra fine needle. Discomfort is minor if present at all. The effects of your treatment will be visible within three to five days. The wrinkle vanishing effect will last from three to four months, and it is sometimes as long as six before the wrinkles begin to gradually reappear. At that time the Botox can be re-administered for maintenance. Reappearance of wrinkles can be less noticeable as the treated muscle is essentially trained to relax.

Cosmetic Botox is Perfectly Safe and Side Effects are Minimal

There is no danger associated with cosmetic Botox injections as the dosage amounts needed are miniscule. Side effects of Botox treatments could include temporary bruising of the treated area and headaches. If experienced, these side effects last only one or two days. On rare occasions the treatment can lead to drooping of the eyelids. This may be caused by the Botox moving from the treated area. For this reason it is recommended that the area not be rubbed for a couple of days after treatment.

Those that should not use cosmetic Botox treatments include pregnant or breastfeeding woman and anyone with a neurological disease. Also, Botox does not work on all wrinkles, including those caused by overexposure to the sun. Your physician at Advance Health Services will consult with you before beginning any treatment plan.
